We’ve walked through Judges together—and it was not easy reading.
Generation after generation, the same pattern. Rest that became forgetting. Forgetting that became idolatry. Idolatry that brought oppression. Cries that moved God to raise a deliverer—only to watch Israel return to the same ground again, lower than before. By the final chapters of Judges, you may have needed to look away. The author intended that response.
But Judges is not the last word on this era. In those same days, in that same broken world, a Moabite woman was walking a dusty road toward a land she didn’t know, beside a mother-in-law with nothing left to offer her, following a God she had only recently chosen as her own. Ruth is set in the days of the judges. She lived inside the chaos you just finished reading. And against that backdrop, God was quietly writing something that neither she nor anyone around her could fully see.
Before we move into 1 Samuel, we wanted to leave something in your hands.
