Welcome to The Bible for the Broken
Life has a way of shattering us. Dreams collapse. Relationships fracture. Bodies fail. Hearts break under the weight of loss, disappointment, and grief that won’t relent. And sometimes, in the aftermath, even our faith feels fragile—strained by questions we’re afraid to ask and doubts we’re ashamed to voice.
If that describes you, this study is for you.
Brokenness comes from many places—sometimes from the wounds others have inflicted, sometimes from our own sin and failure, often from both. God meets us with truth and mercy in every kind of brokenness.
Why This Exists
We’ve spent decades in pastoral ministry and Bible teaching. We thought we understood brokenness—until life brought us to our knees in ways we never anticipated.
Loss. Injustice. Chronic illness. Watching loved ones become so broken by suffering that they stop opening their Bibles, stop going to church, stop believing God could possibly care—even though He never stops holding them. We’ve seen how quickly the “put-together” veneer can crack, how isolating pain can be, and how desperately people need something more than platitudes when life falls apart.
We also know that millions of people are quietly struggling—too hurt to ask for help, too weary to go to church, too broken to focus on dense theology. They love God, but they can barely read the Bible. They want to pray, but the words won’t come.
This study is for them. For you.
It’s a refuge. A life raft. A way to stay connected to God’s Word when everything else feels like it’s slipping away.
What This Is
The Bible for the Broken is a free daily journey through Scripture—from Genesis to Revelation.
Each day includes:
A Scripture passage (chronological through the Bible)
A reflection that connects God’s Word to the reality of human brokenness
Journaling prompts (gentle, honest questions that invite you deeper—but never demand more than you can give)
An audio reflection (so you can listen when reading feels too hard)
This isn’t a “10 steps to healing” program.
It isn’t a prosperity gospel promise that God will fix everything if you just believe harder.
It isn’t shallow comfort or spiritual bypassing.
This is honest theology for people in real pain.
This is gentle hope for those who feel abandoned.
This is one day at a time for those who can’t see past tomorrow.
Who This Is For
This study is for:
Those who are grieving and can’t find their footing
Those dealing with chronic illness, disability, or limitations that won’t lift
Those whose relationships have shattered and left them isolated
Those who feel disappointed—even with God
Those who are tired of pretending to be okay
Those who want to stay rooted in Scripture but can barely focus enough to read
You don’t have to be “strong in your faith” to start.
You don’t have to have it all together.
You just have to show up. One day at a time.
What to Expect
Starting January 1, 2026, you’ll receive a daily post in your inbox.
Some days, the study will meet you in the chaos and remind you that God is present.
Some days, it will challenge you to take one small step forward.
Some days, it will simply give you permission to rest and trust that God is holding you even when you can’t hold yourself.
The pace is steady but not demanding.
The tone is warm but not shallow.
The theology is sound but not academic.
We walk through Scripture honestly, carefully, and with deep respect for both God’s holiness and your pain.
A Word About Theology
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant Word of God.
We believe in the exclusivity of Christ for salvation.
We believe that sin is real, that God is holy, and that brokenness has consequences.
But we also believe that God does not leave us in our brokenness.
He pursues. He restores. He redeems.
If you want more detail on what we believe, see our statement of faith.
About Us
We’re Steve and Pam Traylor, co-editors of The Bible for the Broken.
Steve holds an M.Div. from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a D.Min. from Beeson Divinity School. He recently retired after 42 years of pastoral ministry. He records the daily audio reflections.
Pam is a writer with a background in Bible teaching and ministry.
We’re doing this together—not to build a platform or make a name, but because we’ve seen too many people become so overwhelmed by suffering that they stop engaging with Scripture, stop attending church, stop believing God could still be near. We want to offer a way for the broken to stay connected to God’s Word, even when everything else feels impossible.

A Note on Community and Comments: We’ve disabled comments on all posts to maintain a peaceful, focused space for engaging with Scripture. This is not a discussion forum or debate platform—it’s a refuge for the broken to stay connected to God’s Word. If you need pastoral support, prayer, or have theological questions, we encourage you to connect with a local Bible-believing church or pastor. We cannot provide individual pastoral care or respond to personal inquiries, but we trust God will lead you to the support you need.
